Earning money with an open source bitcoin software?

Hey guys. I know this title suggests that this is the wrong subreddit. However this community and its open source spirit is what I need for a good discussion.

So I am currently working on this app that serves as an alternative to DIY solutions. You can hook into your solar roof and connect ASIC miners (I plan on adding support for other miners aswell) and the software dynamically adjusts the miners and their power targets according to the surplus.

There is also a lightning wallet in the program (phoenixd) where users get a BOLT11/BOLT12 lightning address for free. Of course we have ROI calculations and PDF export for your tax reports. Its pretty much the plug & play solution for people who want to mine bitcoin and have the energy but don't want to spend too much time on creating everything in Home assistant on their own.

Long story short: I have worked on this software for quite a while. I gathered many different opinions on this and now I want to open the discussion here.

First of all: What is my intent?
I am a software engineering student (currently in my masters) and I would love to work on a program / app people love to use and also earn some money with it.
But how? Especially in the bitcoin space people want to verify. You cannot verify closed source code.
People love DIY. So why even use my software if it costs money?

I have been thinking about this for some weeks now. (Should have done that earlier but when I began this project I did not know that I would even come to this point)

My "fairest" solution would be that there is a Dev Fee for the hashrate that is generated while using this program. I could also go Open Source but are people then going to remove the dev fee on their own?

Its the first software I plan to release to the public so I really need some input.

I have heard many things regarding this project. Most of them where harsh because of the dev fee model or the fact that it is currently closed source.
